ANCIENT COINS. GREEK. Kingdom of Pontos, Mithradates VI, Eupator (120-63 B.C.), Gold Stater, 8.38g, 12h. Mint of Tomis, in the name of Lysimachos, struck during the First Mithradatic War, 88-86 B.C. Head of the deified Alexander the Great facing right, wearing a diadem and the horn of Ammon. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΛYΣIMAXOY, Athena seated left, resting her elbow on shield and holding Nike in her extended right hand, HPA (HP ligate) inner left, TO beneath seat, trident left in exergue (De Callatäy p. 141; AMNG I, 2479). Reverse shows a very early stage of die erosion as is typical, good very fine.
