ANCIENT COINS. GREEK. Satraps of Caria, Pixodaros (340-334 B.C.), Silver Didrachm, 6.99g, 12h. Head of Apollo facing, inclined slightly to right, wearing a laurel-wreath. Rev. ΠIΞΩΔAPOY, Zeus Labraundos standing to right, wearing a chiton and a himation, holding a spear in his left hand and a double-headed axe (labrys) over his shoulder in his right (Pixodarus Hoard, The Hekatomnids (K. Konuk), Coin Hoards IX, 23 (A3/P9); BMC 5; SNG Keckman 280; SNG Kayhan 891). Beautiful style, well-struck in high relief, light iridescent tone, extremely fine.
