ANCIENT COINS. GREEK. Kingdom of Syria, Seleucid Kings, Demetrios I Soter (162-150 B.C.), Silver Tetradrachm, 16.94g, 2h. Mint of Seleukia on the Tigris. Jugate busts of Demetrios I, diademed, and his wife Laodice, wearing a stephane, facing right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ [Δ]HMHTPIOY ΣΩTHPOΣ, Tyche, holding a sceptre and a cornucopiae, seated left on a throne supported by Nereid (Houghton & Lorber, SC 1688-9; Houghton 991-3). Overstruck, with traces of the undertype (a Tetradrachm of Timarchos?) visible, toned, very fine. Very rare.
