ANCIENT COINS. GREEK. Sicily, Mamertinoi (c.288-278 B.C.), AE Quadruple, 18.91g, 1h. APEOΣ, head of a youthful Ares facing right, wearing a laurel-wreath, a Macedonian helmet behind. Rev. MAMEP-TINΩN, eagle, with wings spread, standing on thunderbolt to left (SNG ANS 402; Calciati I, 92, 3). A beautiful classical image of Ares fully struck on good metal, glossy green-brown patina, extremely fine.
