ANCIENT COINS. GREEK. Sicily, Messana (c.425-421 B.C.), Silver Tetradrachm, 16.99g, 11h. The nymph Messana, holding reins with both hands, driving a slow biga of mules right, Nike flying above to right to crown the mules, two dolphins facing each other in exergue. Rev. ME-Σ-Σ-AN-IO-N, hare springing right, dolphin to right below (Caltabiano 500.3 (D202/R208, this coin); SNG ANS 361 (this obverse die); SNG Lloyd 1092; SNG Ashmolean 1844 (this obverse die); SNG Lockett 827). Well-centered, lightly toned, extremely fine.
