ANCIENT COINS. ROMAN. Anonymous, "Aes Grave" Coinage (c.225-217 B.C.), AE As, 253.3g. Head of bearded Janus on a raised disk, no valuation mark. Rev. Prow of galley left, mark of value I above, all on a raised disk (Thurlow-Vecchi 57 (80 specimens known); Cr 36/1; Haeberlin, plate 19-20). Very rare variety with prow left, a superb natural medium green patina, good extremely fine, an exceptional example.
