ANCIENT COINS. ROMAN. Caligula (A.D. 37-41) and Agrippina Snr., Silver Denarius, 3.79g, 8h. Mint of Lugdunum, struck A.D. 37-8. [C CAESAR] AVG GERM P M TR POT, head of Caligula facing right, wearing a laurel-wreath. Rev. AGRIPPINA MA[T C CAES A]VG GERM, bust of Agrippina the Elder facing right, draped and with her hair in a queue falling down the back of her neck (RIC 14; BMC 15; C 2). Two fantastic portraits of fine style, a little off-centre, but an exceptional example, well-struck on perfect metal, with a superb old iridescent cabinet tone, good extremely fine. A beautiful coin.
