ANCIENT COINS. GREEK. Sicily, Syracuse (c.510-490 B.C.), Silver Tetradrachm, 17.33g, 9h. SYRAQO / SION, charioteer, wearing a long chiton and holding the reins, driving a slow quadriga right. Rev. Head of Arethusa facing left, within a small incuse circle, a quadripartite incuse square pattern surrounds the circle, the quarters slightly textured (Boehringer 12 (V9/R6); Rizzo, pl. XXXIV, 4; SNG ANS 3 (this reverse die); Antikenmuseum Basel 421). Superb style, good metal, iridescent old cabinet tone, good very fine. Very rare.
