ANCIENT COINS. BYZANTINE. Manuel I Comnenus (A.D. 1143-1180), Gold Hyperpyron, 4.23g, 5h. A.D. 1167-1183. Nimbate facing bust of Christ, beardless, holding a scroll and raising hand in benediction. Rev. Manuel standing facing, holding a labarum and a globus cruciger, being crowned by Manus Dei, Manuel's collar with nine pellets and a cross and star on his chlamys (cf DOC 1e. 5,; S 1956). Graffiti in reverse right margin, well-struck for type, good very fine.
