Lower Canada. City Bank "Bouquet" 1/2 Penny Token ND (1837) XF Details (Reverse Damage, Corrosion) NGC, Br-673 (R5), LC-7 var. (Extremely Rare; stated as plain edge), Courteau-2 (R9). 5.76gm. Edge engrailed left. Medal alignment. Trade & Agriculture issue. Believed to be by Jean-Marie Arnault of Montreal. Remarkably a second example of this most elusive type, preserving again another variation on the reportedly plain edge recorded by Charlton. The engrailing appears to be quite carefully done, showing no signs of seriously disturbing the metal around the rims, though it remains possible, as with the previous lot, that it may have been applied later. We also note that the weight is nearly 2 grams lighter than that recorded by Charlton, though similar weight variations are recorded among the issues of other Lower Canadian series, particularly the Wellington Peninsular issues.
