Lower Canada. Bank of Montreal "Side View" 1/2 Penny Token 1839 VF25 Brown NGC, KM-Tn15, Br-524 (R4), LC-10B2, Courteau-34 var. (R8; unrecorded with left edges of bricks touching window frames). Plain edge. Coin alignment. Variety with edge of roof pointing between A and L in Montreal, left fence with 14 palings, and high head beaver whose tail does not touch the garter. The sole example of LC-10B2 we have handled, and reportedly the rarest variety of 1839 Side View 1/2 Penny token series according to Charlton. Though featuring some minor edge bumps, this piece is not unattractive, with wear evenly situated over the higher points of the design, and a rich chocolate brown patina. Sold with old collector's envelope.
