Lower Canada. Bank of Montreal brass "Side View" Penny Token 1838 AU58 Brown NGC, KM-Tn16, Br-523 (R4-1/2), LC-11A1, Courteau-36 (R8), Robins-29454. Plain edge. Medal alignment. Variety with narrow tail on beaver that almost touches M in Montreal. A fiercely contested and notably fleeting issue, seen here very much on the cusp of Mint State with bold flow lines and just the slightest rub on the highpoints keeping it from Mint State. For reference, we sold an AU55 Brown for an all-in price of $4800. Sold with old collector's envelope.
