Lower Canada. Bank of Montreal brass "Side View" Penny Token 1838 MS62 Brown NGC, KM-Tn16, Br-523 (R4-1/2), LC-11A2, Courteau-37 (R8), Robins-29455. Plain edge. Medal alignment. Variety with wide tail beaver that points to the left foot of M in Montreal. Incredibly well-preserved and likely among the finest known of this very rare type, with the next finest of which we are aware being a mere AU Details. Revealing a clear brassy-yellow tinge to the rims, the surfaces appear glossy and velveteen, heavily textured with the radiant flow lines so characteristic of high grade Side View tokens of the period. A clear target for the condition-minded collector, and the ideal type piece. Mislabeled on the holder as LC-11A1.
