Lower Canada "Montreal Ropery" 1/2 Penny Token ND (1828) AU Details (Damaged) NGC, Br-564 (R5), LC-18, Robins-29320. Engrailed edge. Medal alignment. A classic and nearly unattainable Canadian token rarity, with the majority of the supposed 15 or so surviving examples confined to museums or closely guarded private collections. Owen's Ropery only operated for around a year after it's establishment in c. 1824, before being bought out by the Canada Cordage Co., leaving very few of these tokens issued in the first place. While admitting several peck-like damage marks over both sides, the technical grade remains far superior to the specimen we offered in our first Dough Robins sale--a VF25 Brown which brought $12,000.
