Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.62 g, 6h). Uncertain Spanish mint (Colonia Patricia?). Struck circa 20-17/16 BC. S P Q R CAESAR[I] AVGVSTO, bare head right / VOT • P • SVSC/ PRO • SAL • E[T]/ REDIT • I • O • M/ SACRVM [•] in four lines across field, Mars, helmeted, naked except for cloak hanging from shoulders over left arm, standing left, holding vexillum upright on ground in right hand and parazonium sloped on left shoulder in left. RIC I –; cf. RSC 323; cf. BMCRE p. 76, note 441; cf. BN 1250; NAC 114, lot 1395; Egger XLIII, lot 272. Toned, bankers' marks, some deposits, a few minor scratches and marks. VF. Extremely rare. Perhaps the third known.
