KINGS of THRACE, Macedonian. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (30mm, 16.94 g, 12h). Uncertain mint in the Propontic region. Posthumous issue, struck circa 270-250 BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, spear in background; monogram to inner left. Marinescu –; Müller –; HGC 3, 1394; Numismatica Wien VII, lot 76 (prob. same engraver). Slight die shift on reverse. VF. Rare.
This issue has a striking resemblance to an issue now given to Byzantion by C. Marinescu (his new Issue 29 in the forthcoming revision of his dissertation). While he does not consider the present issue to be from Byzantion, it certainly must be from a mint in the region that was associated with the city.
