KINGS of THRACE, Macedonian. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (28.5mm, 16.91 g, 12h). Uncertain mint (possibly Pergamon). Posthumous issue, mid-3rd century BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, spear in background; herm to outer left, AΓ monogram to inner left. Thompson –; Müller –; ANS 1944.100.81751 (same dies). Toned, some marks, scratch and tiny flan flaw on obverse, slight roughness and a little off center on reverse. VF. Rare.

Ex Knobloch FPL 29 (November 1965), no. 85.

Although the mint is uncertain, two features suggest Pergamon, which is among the mints that likely struck coins of this type after Lysimachos's death. First, the herm control mark was used as a subsidiary symbol there during the lifetime issues, and this coin was probably struck soon after his death. Second, the portrait of the deified Alexander here displays a rather unique style, which is quite similar to the iconic portrait of Philetairos on the issues of the Pergamene kings.
