FRANCE, Royal. Louis XIV le Roi Soleil (the Sun King). 1643–1715. AR Écu aux huit L (43mm, 26.75 g, 6h). Second type. Dijon mint; différent: hunting horn (?). Dated 1704 [P]. Cuirassed bust right / Crowned double L's in cruciform, fleur-de-lis in angles, arms of France in center; [escallop at start of legend?]. Cf. Duplessy 1551; cf. Ciani 1924; cf. KM 362.1. Toned. VF. Overstruck on an earlier issue (Duplessey 1520A. Dated 1695).
