CELTIC. Lower Danube. AR Drachm, ca. 3rd century B.C. NGC Ch EF.
Imitating the types of Alexander III (the Great) of Macedon. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus seated left on throne, holding eagle and scepter; monogram to left. Owing to its extensive use as a type throughout the region, the "Alexander-style" coinage was rather prolific and lent itself well to imitations, such as those produced in the Celtic areas. These issues can range from good style, very similar to their prototypes, to rather barbarous, stylized creations.
Estimate: $150.00- $250.00
