MYSIA. Pergamon. Kingdom of Pergamon. Attalos I, 241-197 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (17.28 gms), Pergamon Mint, ca. 215-200 B.C. NGC AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5. Fine Style.
Pr-1476. In the name and types of Alexander III (the Great) of Macedon. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus seated left on throne, holding eagle and scepter; in left field, bee left. A bold, lightly handled example of this type struck long after the death of Alexander and instead for the Pergamene king, and founder of his eponymous dynasty, Attalos I. Pleasingly toned and quite brilliant, this represents a VERY RARE type. A subtle scuff in the lower reverse field is mentioned merely for completeness.
Estimate: $400.00- $600.00
