Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus seated left on throne, holding eagle and scepter; in left field, head of Amun-Ra (as ram) right, with double plume crown; below throne, monogram below strut. A charming early issue under Ptolemy, Alexander's general in Egypt. Following Alexander's death, Ptolemy began what would be his dynasty, with his line directly ruling the vast realm until the death of Kleopatra VII (of Julius Caesar and Marc Antony fame) in 30 B.C.
