PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Kleopatra VII Thea, 51-30 B.C. AR Tetradrachm, Alexandreia Mint, Dated RY 10 (43/2 B.C.). NGC EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 2/5.
Svor-1824 (Ptolemy XIII); SNG Cop-404. Obverse: Diademed bust of Ptolemy I right, wearing aegis; Reverse: Eagle with closed wings standing left on thunderbolt, with palm frond over shoulder; LI (date) over headdress of Isis to left, ΠΑ to right. Always a tough issue to encounter without issue, this interesting piece was struck just after the assassination of Kleopatra's lover, Julius Caesar, on the Ides of March in 44 B.C.
