3.79 gms. Fr-279; Dup-294; Ciani-361. Obverse: Jean, wielding sword and in full armor, riding caparisoned horse left; Reverse: Voided cross flueree, with polylobe at center; all within polylobe. Lightly toned, with some minor flan waviness.

A popular and interesting type portraying the king as an armored knight riding gallantly into battle, this issue ended up being used greatly in the paying of his ransom, the king having been captured by the English in the Battle of Poitiers.
