TURKEY. Triple Alliance - Crimean War Victory Bronzed Medal, 1854. PCGS SPECIMEN-64 Gold Shield.
Dogan-6539. Diameter: 72mm. By L.S. Hart. Obverse: Bust of Sultan Abdul Mejid I, nearly facing, his name and title in French around, the whole surrounded with a border of shields and plaques naming the military leaders of the Crimean War; Reverse: Victory inscribes a list of battles on a memorial pyramid, a mosque beyond, and a snake at her feet; inscription "LA FRANCE ET L'ANGLETERRE UNIES POUR LA DEFENSE DU DROIT", with "DIEU LE VEUT" in exergue. Struck in wonderful relief, this RARE medal was struck in remembrance of the Ottoman Alliance with France and England against Russia. The surfaces remain deep brown and glossy with a few reddish tinges on the highpoints from cabinet friction. Only the second example of the type we've sold, with the last being a gilt-bronze specimen that realized $5,287.50 in our 2015 Baltimore auction.

Estimate: $1000.00- $2000.00
