The Our Lady of the Pottery hospital was founded in 1276 on land belonging to the potters' guild, hence its name. Nuns cared for pilgrims, travellers and the sick here. Many miracles have been attributed to the 13th century limestone statue of Our Lady of the Pottery, one of Bruges' oldest preserved statues, and it became a popular place of pilgrimage.
