France. Lorraine. Toul. Saint Mansuy. 16th century. SN-PB Pilgrim badge (8.84g, 32mm). Bruna -; van Beuningen -. Old cabinet tone. Choice extremely fine. From a European private collection; former S.P. collection

Saint Mansuy, from Scotland, was the first bishop of Toul. This badge illustrates his most famous miracle: one feast day the governor's son fell from the top of the ramparts in the Moselle river. The pagan gods were invoked but in vain. Later, the governor had a dream... he saw Saint Mansuy who promised to resurrect his son if he converted to Christianity. The next day, Saint Mansuy knelt down in front of the river, the child's body began to float and he raised him from the dead.
