RUSSIAN MEDALS. ORDERS OF THE USSR. Researched Order of Suvorov 2nd Class. Type 2. Award # 2174.. Screwback. Gold and silver, with red enamels. Original silver screwback nut. Comes with Certificate of Authenticity from Paul McDaniel (highest 9 out of 10 condition rating). Also, comes with copies of official research from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, including award cards, military records (include photo), citations and decrees. Awarded to Major-General Zaitsev G.M. in Feb. of 1943. According to the research, comrade Zaitsev was a career officer, who started his service in the Czar's Imperial Army in 1915, joined the Red Army in October of 1918, and received the Order of the Red Banner of RSFSR (numbered 5939) in 1921. At the first stages of WWII, Colonel Zaitsev had luck on his side, and by 1942 was already commanding the 127th Rifle Division. Promoted to Major-General in January 1943. However, sometime in March 1943, he went missing-in-action. As it was later discovered, he was wounded and taken prisoner by the Germans. After 2 years of being a POW, he was finally liberated by American troops in April 1945, underwent a NKVD check-up, and was returned to service, Retired in 1955, died in 1961. Орденом Суворова 2-й степени # 2174 награжден генерал-майор Зайцев Георгий Михайлович (1895 – 1961). Генерал Зайцев начал свою службу в царской армии в 1915г, дослужился до чина подпоручика, в октябре 1918г. перешел на сторону Красной Армии. В 1921г. награжден орденом Боевого Красного Знамени РСФСР (за номером 5939). В 1936г. полковник. К началу Великой Отечественной войны начальник оперативного отдела штаба 22-й армии. В 1942г. получил в командование 127-ю стрелковую дивизию, в январе 1943г. повышен в звании до генерал-майора. В марте 1943г., будучи раненым, попадает в плен к немцам. Содержится в лагере для военнопленных в крепости Вайсенбург, откуда и освобожден союзниками в апреле 1945г. После проверки в лагере НКВД признан годным с службе, и направлен в распоряжение ГУК НКО. Уволен в отставку в 1955, умер в 1961г.. Condition:. Close to mint condition with old dark patina. Superb
