China
Qing Dynasty. Hebei Huabao? ("Reformed") Sycee of 48 Taels ND (c. 19th Century), Cribb-Class III.B? 100x64mm. 1757.8gm. Stamped in two sections, each reading: "Kui Chou Nian Yue Ri" (Year, month, day of lunar year Kui Chou). A weighty high-sided ingot that clearly saw ample use and circulation. Though Cribb does not record a c. 50 Tael sycee with these stamps, class B of the Huabao ingots of Hebei is the only section we have found that he mentions a sycee of this size stamped twice with its date of manufacture. Some minor discoloration from an old label is noted on the side for accuracy.
This lot has not yet been assigned a grade, as it will be submitted to Gong Bo for certification before the auction.
