Kiangnan. Kuang-hsü Dollar ND (1897) AU53 PCGS, Nanking mint, KM-Y145.1, L&M-210A, Kann-66d. Herringbone (ornamental edge). Variety with 2 strokes in sheng ("province"), and crossbars on A's in KIANGNAN barely visible. Highly impressive for the issue and of superior visual appeal for an example that has seen any degree of circulation. This rare specimen displays glistening fields and devices, graced with a soft silver patina, conveying a degree of preservation that ultimately feels higher in hand than the assigned grade suggest. Though lightly rubbed at the higher points, the uniform toning and fresh surfaces serve to lessen this fact, which, in conjunction with a complete lack of any larger instances of contact, serves to render this offering as one of the most charming circulated examples that one could hope to encounter from the type, often found impaired by cleaning, chopmarking, and other various issues.
