Republic Nye Sze Chung gold Medal of 50 Cents Year 9 (1920) MS62 NGC, Anking mint, KM-X990, L&M-1122, Kann-Plate 189, WS-0080B, Wenchao-57 (rarity 3 stars). Variety with six-pointed stars. Produced to commemorate the Anhwei Army, featuring the bust of the Anhwei military governor Nye Sze Chung (Ni Sichung). By all measures a remarkable specimen of this non-denominated medallic commemorative, likely representing one of the finest, if not the finest, certified examples, outranking even the Lawrence Adams piece offered in 2016--an MS61 which brought $18,000 hammer. With the exception of the most minor wisps which likely bound the grade, each facet of the design is boldly rendered, fully struck-up, and virtually unimprovable, free of serious softness or uneveness, with a lightly watery shimmer to the surfaces.
