People's Republic gold Proof "Ancient Dragon Boat" 500 Yuan (5 oz) 1995 PR69 Deep Cameo PCGS, Shenyang mint, KM-A823, Fr-124, Cheng-pg. 177, 1, CC-804. Numbered 97 on the edge. An extraordinary specimen ranking easily as one of the rarest and most highly desirable modern Chinese coin types, with just three examples seen to-date by PCGS and no specimens--either there or at NGC--having yet been awarded with technical perfection. Nevertheless, the present offering is virtually immaculate, with deeply mirrored fields perfectly set against the richly expressed devices, each detail picked out by frost in razor-sharp definition. While sources seem to disagree on whether the final mintage figure for the issue was 99 or 104 examples struck, in either case this coin stands near the terminus of minted specimens, certainly adding another degree of allure for potential bidders.
