People's Republic gold Proof Peacock 500 Yuan (5 oz) 1993 PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC, Shanghai mint, KM600, Cheng-pg. 139, 2, CC-542. Mintage: 102. Only the second example of this major series rarity we have handled, and only the third that we have been able to locate coming to auction in recent years. Standing as the second largest denomination in the gold peacock series, just behind the virtually unattainable 1500 Yuan, this splendid 500 Yuan features an exceptional cameo contrast, with only some minor copper spotting likely precluding a higher technical grade; of the just 29 pieces seen to-date by NGC none have yet been awarded with technical perfection. The present offering comes with its original case of issue and COA #56, and is correspondingly stamped with the same serial number on the edge.
