Rama IV Counterstamped Dollar ND (1858-1860) VF35 NGC, KM-C141.1, LeMay-pg. 95, Plate XXII, 5, Krisadaolarn/Mihailovs-pg. 148, Plate F05. Displaying Mongkut and Chakra countermarks on a Mexico 8 Reales 1856 Zs-MO (cf. KM377.13). Of notably greater scarcity than the relatively common Chinese-chopmarked 8 Reales, these Thai counterstamped pieces were supposedly produced by the Treasury--though Krisadaolarn and Mihailovs state that they were privately countermarked in Bangkok--during a shortage of 'bullet' type coinage. Perhaps a bit conservatively graded, with sharp details in the peripheries.
