Mitch-4144, Opitz-pg. 339 (second piece illustrated). The front is divided into 3 panels, the top containing 6 stars; the center displays a gate flanked by two plants on either side, a star is in the upper arch, the bottom panel reads: "Zhongguo Chaye Gongsi" (China National Tea Corporation) in the top row, and "Zhaoliqiao Zhuancha Chang Zhizao" (Made by the Zhaoliqiao Brick Tea Factory) / the back is perforated into 16 panels, each with an endless knot containing the number 88.
An interesting group of more modern bricks, likely to serve as the basis for a budding collection. While Mr. Opitz has noted that the Communist-produced 'gate' types were first introduced after 1949, Ken Bressett has written that the bricks displaying 8 characters in the bottom row are of later production for sale as novelty items and use as consumable tea. Sold as is, no returns.
