China People's Bank of China 1000 Yuan 1949 Pick 850a S/M#C282-62 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ. A famed denomination issued in 1949, this banknote is from a small cache that was thankfully saved for posterity. Although this is example is pack fresh, it remains rather crude, which is insight into the political and economic climate in China at the time. At the inception of the People's Republic, banknotes of various designs and denominations were printed as fast as the presses could handle, and rushed into circulation with the same gusto. However, they wore out quickly, and the entire series was withdrawn beginning in 1955.
