A triumph of banknote design and printing is displayed on this iconic, large format denomination from Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corp. Simply, this is one of the finest mergings of artwork and commerce in world paper money. Regretfully, we see these all too infrequently today, as most examples of this design have been redeemed or lost over the years. All design elements, from the bust of Apollo to the second HSBC headquarters, are on full display. A minor restoration is seen to the top right corner, along with customary hole punched cancellations, and a red overprint. This is the first we have offered, and one of only seven Specimens graded in the PMG Population Report at the time of cataloging.
