Japan Greater Japan Imperial National Bank 1 Yen ND (1877) Pick 20 PMG Very Fine 25. A rarely seen Tokyo issue of the initial denomination of the 1877 series. The front is highlighted by the large red ornamental seal of the Ministry of Finance on the right, while a pleasing vignette of sailors graces the left. An exceptional image of Ebisu (god of commerce and shipping) is well centered on the back of this seldom-seen type. Third party grading mentions a minor repair which does not detract from the scarcity of this issue. There are only 26 examples graded in the PMG Population Report. The Standard Catalog does not differentiate between the different varieties of this type, for which there are many.
