Indonesia Bank Indonesia 100 Rupiah 1960 (ND 1963) Pick R10 Riau Archipelago Issue PMG About Uncirculated 53. An important and rare issue from the Indonesian Province of Riau, this type is seldom seen today. Although the Riau Archipelago was under Dutch and Indonesian control for centuries, it lay in the middle of British controlled Malaya, Sarawak, and Singapore. During the 1950s and early 1960s, the Malayan Dollar circulated in the region, which was much stronger than the Indonesian Rupiah. In 1963, these overprinted notes were introduced, replacing the Malayan currency at par, which effectively made this regional currency much stronger than the standardized Indonesian Rupiah. This type only circulated for about one year, which limited its issuance and prevented many from being saved for posterity. This handsome example only displays minor edge roughness on otherwise good paper with strong colors.
