Charles II (1660-85), Guinea, 1678, fourth bust, nothing below truncation, large 6 in date, 8.30g, 7h (Murdoch II, -; Schneider II, -; MCE 78; S.3344), some very minor haymarking by ties, otherwise residually lustrous, good fine.
The fabled Murdoch collection (Sotheby, 8 June 1903) possessed two examples of Guinea for 1678, one with an Elephant and Castle below bust (lot 541 [S.3345]), the other with an Elephant below (lot 542a [S.3346]) but not the present type with nothing below the truncation
