Faustina I, wife of Antoninus Pius († 141), AR Denarius, AD 129, Rome, rev. AVGVSTA, Vesta seated left, holding patera and sceptre, 3.82g, 1h (RIC 371; RSC 119), good fine and with a solid provenance to an insightful Romano-British third Century coin hoard.

The Holme Hoard was discovered on ploughed farmland by Messrs. Robinson and Sparks on the 23 November 2003. The find comprised 408 silver Denarii dating from the 1st Century BC to the Severan period and the fragmentary remains of a storage jar or flagon. Examined by the British Museum, 115 coins were accessioned into the national collection, whilst the remaining 293 were disclaimed and sold at public auction where Lobel acquired the balance en bloc for £4,000 [HP]. All lots are provided with the British Museum hoard number, RIC reference and metric weight.
