William the Conqueror (1066-87), Penny, 'Bonnet' type, Leicester, Godric, 1.09g, 10h, rev. + GODRIC ON LEGRII (N.842; BMC II; S.1251), a trace of surface porosity, otherwise nicely struck up with a matte grey tone, a bold very fine, very rare, no parallel traced in SCBI or on EMC for this moneyer and class combination.

Major P W P Carlyon-Britton's seminal corpus on the coinage of the reigns of William I and II for the BNJ [1907, pp. 25], noted the moneyer Godric operating at Leicester for the type II (Bonnet) and type VIII (PAXS) coinages as well as consistently throughout the reign of William Rufus.
