Byzantine lead seal of Apnelgaripes, proedros and strategos (governor) of Tarsus in Cilicia, Asia Minor (ca 1060-1078 cent.)
Obverse: St. George standing facing, wearing military dress, holding spear in right hand, resting left on shield, columnar inscription: O(ΑΓΙΟC)ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟC = Ὁ ἅγιος Γεώργιος (Saint George), traces of inscription at right, T.., all within dotted border.

Reverse: Inscription in 6 lines between decorative patterns and following a cross, +OΑΠ(Ν)ΕΛ/[ΓΑ]ΡΙΠΗCΠΡΟ/[ΕΔΡΟ]CSCΤΡΑ/[ΤΗΓΟC]ΤΑΡCΟΥS/C[...]ΝΤΕΤΟΥ/ΚΑCANH = + Ὁ Ἀπνελγαρίπης πρόεδρος καὶ στρατηγὸς Ταρσοῦ καί τε τοῦ Κασάνη (Apnegaripes proedros and strategos of Tarsou and [son] of Kasanes), all within a dotted border.
Parallel/similar seals and bibliography: BLS II 362; CNG Zacos II 362 var. (legend); Seyrig 40. As Cheynet (Travaux et Memoires 12, Paris 1994, no.18) notes, this person has been identified as the Apellarib Archruni, son of Hasan, of a family closely allied with Senacherim, prince of Vaspourakan. Apellarib served Michael VII as governor of Cilicia. He died about 1078.
