C. Hosidius C.f. Geta. 64 BC. AR Serrate Denarius (21.5mm, 3.89 g, 6h). Rome mint. Draped bust of Diana right, bow and quiver over shoulder / Calydonian boar standing right, pierced by spear and attacked by dog. Crawford 407/1; Sydenham 904; Hosidia 2; Type as RBW 1455. Attractive cabinet toning, banker's mark on the obverse. Good VF. Well centered on a broad flan.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection. Ex Numismatica Ars Classica 114 (Part II, 7 May 2019), lot 1326; Gorny & Mosch 186 (8 March 2010), lot 1798.

I purchased this coin due to the really exceptional speared boar and dog on the reverse and the very large flan, but later found an example from the collection of Benjamin Nightingale, a well-known 19th century antiquarian. My new coin has a less cute boar, but I had to choose between provenance and art. [Andrew McCabe]
