Moneyer issues of Imperatorial Rome. C. Pansa and Albinus Bruti f. 48 BC. AR Denarius (18.5mm, 3.80 g, 6h). Rome mint. Mask of bearded Pan right / Two right hands clasped and holding winged caduceus. Crawford 451/1; CRI 28; Sydenham 944; Vibia 22; RBW –. Deeply toned with some iridescence, obverse die break and minor deposits, reverse struck off center. Good VF. Rare.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection.

It is not noted in RRC that the obverse comes with or without a string of berries decorating the hair; this example is with the berries Much scarcer than the RRC 449 types with Jupiter Axurus, but also with more artistically engraved obverse dies. The obverse die matches Banti Vibia 62/1. [Andrew McCabe]
