ROMAN REPUBLIC. The Richard Weigel Collection of Roman Republican Struck Bronzes.
Approximately 107 pieces in lot. Included are a dizzying array of types and denominations ranging from the 3rd through 1st Centuries B.C., with most coins concentrated in the 3rd and 2nd Centuries B.C. Most all are attributed to Crawford and/or Sydenham and include several very scarce and rare types in addition to the more readily available types that one might expect. The quality is quite variable, with some very worn or corroded pieces but most are of average quality for their types; a very small handful of truly choice examples may be found among the more than 100 bronzes in this lot. Duplicating this collection would take years of effort and searching--here is an opportunity to acquire a thorough academic collection of this difficult series in one fell swoop.
