Thomas Thornton, labourer, age 20 born in Parish and town of Ballinrobe, County Mayo, Ireland; attested on 23Oct1857 at Walsall, Staffordshire, England into 39th Regiment of Foot as a Private; Deserted 17Mar1858 and returned 19May1858; tried and imprisoned on 20May to 29Jul1858; rejoined unit as Private 30Jul1858; Re-engaged to complete 21 years' service at Enniskillen, Northern Ireland; discharged at own request, effective 23Dec1879; total service of 21 years and 305 days including the following service abroad - Bermuda 08Nov1859 to 05Mar1864; East Indies 28Jan1873 to 05Mar1879, with an additional 270 days.
