Santo Domingo. Charles & Johanna Real ND (1515-1556) P-S VF20 NGC, Santo Domingo mint, KM0026, Cal-158, Cay-3060, Gomez-30/2. A thoroughly impressive rendition of one of the most difficult Reales of the entire Spanish colonial series, with perhaps only a small handful known, most of which come plagued by salt water damage and rarely become available at auction. Boasting an impressive pedigree, the present specimen, while admitting an uneven strike, preserves strong details on a highly even dolphin-gray flan. Deemed as "probably the finest known" in the original Ray Byrne catalog, it is hardly an exaggeration to say that any serious collector would be hard-pressed to locate a more suitable piece for inclusion in their coin cabinet.
