Philippe VI gold Chaise d'Or ND (1328-1350) MS64 NGC, Fr-269, Dup-258A. 4.66gm. +PhILIPPVS: DЄI: GRACIA: FRAnCORVM: RЄX, Philippe seated facing on gothic throne, scepter held at right, to left, rod topped by hand of justice; all within tressure with lis in spandrels; four saltires below foot of throne / +:XP'C: VIИCIT: XP'C: RЄGИAT: XP'C: IMPERAT (triple annulet stops), cross fleury, quatrefoil within curvilinear rhombus-shaped center, inward-facing lis in angles; all within quadrilobe with crowns in spandrels. Emission from 17 July 1346. Presently the single finest certified example of this extremely appealing type at NGC, imbued with a slightly muted honey-golden color that gives a perceptible feeling of its age without impinging on its near gem quality. Almost perfectly centered, and nearly impossible to locate meaningfully finer. We note that this coin has been misascribed to Philippe IV on the holder.
