Napoleon silver "Jewish Council" Medal 1806 MS62 NGC, Julius-1573, Bramsen-527. 40mm. By DePaulis and Brenet. Struck in commemoration of the Grand Sanhedrin, a Jewish high court assembled to consult with the French government on legislation on the status of Jews within the Empire. Regulations for Jewish worship were eventually published in March of 1808 and supplemented by later decrees, with the intent of establishing improved integration of the Jewish community within France. Accordingly, this rare medal represents an important historical artifact, its importance enhanced by a fitting visual presentation: high-relief detail, skillfully crafted devices, and a pleasing surface tone of interwoven steel and amber, expressed over surfaces bearing marked reflectivity. Very scarce, and the first of its kind that we have offered in silver as an original strike.
