Hildesheim. Free City gold 5 Goldgulden ND (1614-1622) AU58 NGC, KM-M1.1, Fr-1310, Schulten-1270, OIE-251 var. (R; there, with less ornate drapery from arms), Buck/Bahrfeldt-579. 15.36gm. With the name and titles of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. Commemorating the Augmentation of 1528. Variety with more ornate drapery hanging from arms. An exquisite representative of this largest gold emission produced during the reign of Charles V, prominently displaying the emperor's half portrait dressed in 17th-century aristocratic attire. Splendidly lustrous with each element of the design beautifully cut and decorated in mint luster, the offering represents one of just two certified examples. A type which almost demands in-hand examination to be fully appreciated, and appropriately featured on the cover of Rafael Tauler Fesser's El Oro del Imperio Español en Europa.
